10 1/2-15 year olds boys and girls

Activities expand into canoeing, bushwalking, and rock climbing, all aimed at producing a confident, self-reliant individual. One of our major activities every year is the Tasmanian Scout/Guide Regatta held at Snug or St. Helens over the March long weekend, where we take part in a variety of beach and water based compactions. Along with 1,000 other members of both movements.

The scout section award scheme is divided into the following components;

Scout Link Badge

This is a cub Scout Badge and can only be gained by a Cub Scout while still a member of the pack, but the Scout Leader and the future Patrol Leader are pivotal in the training and sign off the requirements for the badge. You have a responsibility to ensure that this training takes place. Arrangements and details about the linking Cub Scouts usually occurs through the Cub Scout Leader at Group Council, and secondly by the Cub Scout making contact with the Scout Leader.

Elective Targets

Pioneer - Red - Participation and Learning

During their journey along the path of Scouting a Scout needs to know that there are three major sign posts. The first is the Pioneer Badge. The Pioneer Target Badges are designed to be achieved by going new places doing practical and adventurous activities. To gain the pioneer badge the scout must complete the two compulsory targets, which are camp craft, and citizenship, plus one from the six elective targets.

This is achieved by the Scouts participation and Learning in the company of their patrol, or with other Scouts and the assistance of their Patrol leader.

Explorer - Blue - Knowledge and Skill Instructing Others [Doing]

After completing the Pioneer Badge, the Scouts journey along the path continues towards the next signpost. As you are aware there are three major sign posts and the second is Explorer Level. The Explorer Target badges are designed to ensure that as the scouts complete their Explorer Target, they will be helping their P.L to assist other Scouts to pass their Pioneer targets by doing practical and active activities. To gain the Explorer Badge a scout must complete the two compulsory targets, which are Camp craft, and citizenship, plus one from the six elective explorer targets.

Adventurer - Green - Instructing Others, Organising and Leading Activities [Teaching]

The Scout has now reached the final major sign post along the path, the Adventurer Badge. The Adventurer target badges are designed to ensure that a scout completing their badge work will be helping other scouts to pass their pioneer and explorer targets, by teaching and using their knowledge to organize practical, active activities.

To gain the Adventurer Badge they must complete the two compulsory targets, which are Camp craft, and Citizenship, and one from the six elective adventurer targets.

The requirements for the awarding of the Pioneer cord is as follows: Have completed the Pioneer Badge, plus two proficiency badge, plus one patrol activity badge.

Australian Scout Medallion

The Australian Scout Medallion is the highest achievement possible for a scout, and can be compared with the Queens Scout Award for a Venturer Scout. The Australian Scout Medallion is awarded for a scout who earns their Adventurer Cord, and has completed the following as part of their progression through the Award Scheme.

The Proficiency Badges

The proficiency badges are designed to encourage scouts to develop individual hobbies pursuits and interests aimed at giving them new skills, while developing their confidence and self esteem. The proficiency badge requires at least 10 hours of effort or participation depending on the nature of the proficiency, but must not exceed four months. There are 31 different badges and the requirements are detailed in the Scout Record Book. Each badge lists the range of the proficiency badge investigate skill and activity.

Patrol Activity Badge

Being a scout is being a member of a patrol, and patrols do activities, patrols go places, patrols build things, patrols camp, hike and look after themselves. The patrol activity badge enables a patrol to participate in enjoyable activities of their choice. There is no limit on the number of patrol activity badges a scout may earn, however, they can only wear three, one from each level on their uniform.

All the other badges are included in the Scout Award Scheme. This is achieved by the other badges being divided in to two categories, Target Badge Equivalent, and Proficiency Badge Equivalent. The other badges which are in target category are:
