The Burnie PCYC or 'police boys' as it is commonly known as, is at present going through some exciting changes, both visual and practical. Over the  past two and a half years, the clubs premises has slowly been brought back to its former glory. Building security has been improved with security fences prohibiting access to the rear of the complex and several sets of sensor lights illuminating all areas around the outside of the building.

New vandal proof lighting has been installed in the corridor and room taking away the sinister gloomy appearance the inside once had. Both male and female toilets have been retiled with showers repaired and operational, providing that little bit of comfort for club users after a strenuous activity. Thanks must go to Neil Wiseman tiling and DAC Plumbing for a truly professional job.

Not to be outdone CAC projects have also done a marvellous job with the replacement of the basketball floor. This was a major maintenance that undoubtedly needed attention. This project was made possible with a $36,740 grant through the Tasmanian community fund.

In the visual department, a mural project continues to brighten the interior of the building and shows no sign of slowing up.

Many new partnerships have been forged with the Department of Youth Justice, Burnie City Council and Hellyer college to name a few.

Community support  is high, with many donations both monetary and material being made to the club without which the club would most likely not be in the position it's in today.

The Burnie PCYC has more changes in store and many more projects in the pipeline and hopes to become a major activity/program facilitator within the community.

Mission Statement

To provide low cost activities for 'at risk' youth and youth from a lower socio-economic      background.

Programs

Mural program

The Burnie PCYC Mural Project commences in Mar 02 with students from parklands High School & Local Artist Damian Rossiter who has been invaluable to the project. In Nov 02 the dept. of youth Justice became involved in the project to provide a suitable program for Juvenile offenders over the past year approx. 50 participants have been involved in the program with a re-offending rate of 1% a HUGE success.

The mural depicts an underwater theme in the female change rooms & part of the corridor & a bush theme in the male change rooms & part of the corridor meeting at a central point as a beach scene. The mural covers every wall surface in the change rooms, walls & ceilings in the corridors, possibly making it one of the largest single art pieces in the state.

The quality of work has been recognized by the Burnie City Council who nominated the PCYC for a tidy towns award.
