The
first club in Tasmania was formed in 1946 at Launceston. There are now 18
clubs state-wide.
Police and Citizens Youth Clubs are the largest youth organisation in Australia. The Clubs have historically provided a wide range of sporting and recreational activities for youth including gymnastics, trampolining, boxing, self defence classes and most indoor games. In recent years the PCYC movement in Tasmania has broadened its role to provide outreach programs to youth from outlying areas. These programs include the RecLink project which provides sporting and recreational activities for unemployed and disadvantaged youth. The teen vacation program is another activity which provides for "at risk" youth during holiday periods. The mobile Activity Centre is an equipped trailer which provides numerous activities as well as health and welfare information to identified areas of need. The actives provided include basketball, volleyball, cricket , baseball, sony play station and most indoor and outdoor games. The clubs are separate incorporated bodies and rely on public and corporate sponsorship support to remain viable and provide for the community needs.
